The Level 2 support function is the demarcation point between the planning organizations and the Level 1 Operations teams.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing support to the Operational Line groups (L1)
- Testing and Standardizing new hardware and software being Introductionduced into the network (NTI/NPI/NTI-Lite)
- Coordinating upgrades into the network
- Providing training availability, as required, to the Line and Operations groups
- Establishing vendor technical assistance relationships
- Interfacing with Service Development and Customer Deal teams as an extended team member
- Accepting developed products, services and tools into the support organization under 'agreed-to terms'

- To ensure the integrity of the core network
- To represent the operational forces, while considering the interests of the corporation for the Introduction of new product and services, and the integration of new technologies
- Vendor relationship management

Main challenges
- Bringing together a team from different areas of the company, often with divergent needs, to complete a common goal
- Keeping the balance between cost, schedule and quality while maintaining the integrity of the core network
- Dealing with process gaps in delivering a project

Qualifications
- Knowledge/experience in Local Area Networking, or Network Design
- Knowledge/experience in Wide Area Networking: Frame Relay, ATM, TCP/IP, Switching and Routing
- Computer literacy and proficiency with office automation products/tools
- Knowledge in Sonet, Optical Enternet and Legacy Networks
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Technical writing abilities
- Excellent problem-solving techniques and trouble analysis skills
- A technical degree (in Computer Science, etc.)
